CNC Tolerances: How Tight Is Too Tight?

Tighter tolerances do not automatically create better parts. Increasingly restrictive tolerances drive up machining costs, inspection requirements, and production complexity while often providing little functional benefit. By understanding process capability, measurement limitations, and design intent, engineers can apply tight tolerances only to critical features, improving manufacturability, reducing costs, and maintaining part performance.
